Things took a dramatic turn when Ray burst in on them and shot Marlon in the chest. April sobbed over his body as he struggled to cling on to life. But then the twist happened – and fans, who up until that point were full of praise for the episode, were left ‘frustrated’, ‘disappointed’ and threatening to switch off. So what happened? April went to see her dad (Credit: ITV) Emmerdale tonight saw April visit Marlon In what were actually beautiful scenes, April popped round to see her dad. They shard a hot chocolate as Marlon baked a cake and the bond they had was clear to see. Marlon could tell April wanted to open up about something, but held back to let her come to him. They laughed and joked and it was almost like nothing else was going outside of the father and daughter. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers But of course, April knew it was. And no matter how much fun she had dressing up in Halloween costumes and snuggling with her dad, she knew it couldn’t last. April told Marlon everything – or so we thought (Credit: ITV) April confesses When it all became too much, April blurted out everything. From the drug dealing to the debt she owed, being sold for sex and killing a man, she told Marlon the lot. He was shocked and heartbroken as he took in all the details and realised who was behind it. April told him she was “nothing” and her mum, Donna, had sacrificed herself for no reason because April didn’t deserve it. Marlon took control and insisted they were going to the police. Despite April’s protestations, Marlon said he would make sure they listened and make everything okay. He promised to protect her. Ray pointed the gun at Marlon and pulled the trigger (Credit: ITV) Ray shot Marlon dead in Emmerdale But then Ray burst through the door. Marlon told him to get out. However Ray pulled a gun. April begged him not to shoot her dad, but Ray pulled the trigger and ran off as Marlon slumped in a heap against the wall. He told April he loved her before breathing his last and dying. And we realised this had all been in April’s head. She was imagining what might happen if she told her dad everything. Having realised she could lose him for good, she now decided not to confess and left Marlon as quickly as she’d arrived. Walking out into the cold street, she pulled her hood up with a resigned look on her face and walked off to her fate. We don’t know what that is, but we know it’s not going to be great. After today’s Emmerdale I’m done and will binge at Christmas. Dallas type dream sequences? No thanks! Wrap up this April storyline please,” shared one on social media. Another simply wrote: “PATHETIC.” And a third added: “[Bleep] and here’s me thinking this [bleep] April farce was at last coming to an end! At this rate, it’ll probably hang around until the Christmas and New Year special episodes.” “What the point of the Marlon and April episode if nothing happened?” said one more and a fifth agreed: “This episode has moved this story absolutely nowhere!!!! What was the actual point?” “Well, so much for the ‘shock twist’ in tonight’s Emmerdale,” said a sixth. “What a waste of time! Marlon *doesn’t die* (which I’m glad about) and, presumably April wanders off and goes missing. Again. Don’t waste your time, folks.” Mark and Amelia were top class (Credit: ITV) Praise for the performances in Emmerdale tonight Despite the disappointment and frustration over the ending, one thing was certain: Mark Charnock and Amelia Flanagan pulled out some knockout performances during the episode. “That special episode with April and Marlon was something else… just wow, powerful,” shared one viewer. Another commented: “Just finished watching the April standalone episode and when I tell you I sobbed! What an episode I am literally shook!” “Tonight’s Emmerdale was a very good episode… Amelia and Mark were fantastic!!” agreed a third. A fourth added: “Sparkling scenes today from Amelia Flanagan and Mark Charnock. What an incredible year it’s been for Amelia!
