In order to stop Cain Dingle shooting John, Caleb hit him over the head with a shovel and knocked him out. The gun went off, but no one was hit. John then hid in the back of the van as they continued with their plan to head to Rotterdam. Caleb was stopped by Border Patrol, who told him to pull over and get out of the truck for a “routine check”. An officer got into the back of the van briefly, made a joke about a cuddly dog and then went on his merry way. After that oh so thorough check, John breathed a sigh of relief from under a sheet. John and Caleb hatched their plan (Credit: ITV) Will John get away? Before setting off again, Caleb Miligan told John the plan – that once in Rotterdam, Caleb will stop for a coffee and that is when John should make a run for it. John handed Caleb a piece of paper, presumably with the location of Anthony’s body on it. He also showed Caleb the email to the police on his phone and deleted it. Caleb asked why he had done all that before they have even set off. John responded that trust works both ways. John then added: “I have made some mistakes, but I am not a bad person.” Just a bit deranged, hey John?… John asked Caleb to tell Aaron he’ll always love him and to “please tell Cain I didn’t mean for it to happen”. Speaking of Cain, as the episode drew to a close, he came round. From the boot of the car he managed to break through into the front of the car, where his keys were waiting and he immediately drove off. Will he get to John before they cross the sea or is this the last we’ve seen of John? Viewers complained about the “sloppy” episode (Credit: ITV) Fans beg for “one last twist” Emmerdale viewers are not amused about how the John storyline has played out. Writing on X, one fan wrote: “The ending of John’s storyline is actually so sloppy because why is he not dead, there better be another twist tomorrow night.” A second fan added: “So after all that John gets away with it. What a stupid anticlimax to tonight’s #Emmerdale.” “Caleb smacks Cain with the shovel and takes John to Rotterdam, let’s drag this on longer,” a third viewer complained. A fourth fan called the episode a “farce”, adding: “You have dragged this story of John on for way too long, then don’t give viewers /characters the ending they deserve – bring him to justice!” Another fan said: “If John does escape a) justice isn’t served b) it will be such an anticlimax to a SL that was dragged out a little too long for me c) how will Aaron get a divorce?” Other fans have more faith in the story and don’t think the is the last we’ve seen of John, with one writing: “You lot need to have more faith in this show. Because AS IF it’s ending there with John. This whole storyline’s been going on for like a year and you think it’s coming to an end on a random Wednesday?” Read more: Who’s leaving Emmerdale? All the cast exits, arrivals and returns What else happened in Emmerdale tonight? While John and Caleb started their journey to Rotterdam, Jai was in charge at the Depot and couldn't believe what Caleb was up to in Emmerdale tonight. Elsewhere, Mack was released from hospital after a remarkably quick recovery. But Ross was hanging around to ensure it wasn't a happy occasion for Charity. Read on for our full recap of Emmerdale tonight. Jai was shocked about Caleb After looking through Caleb's office at the Depot, Jai ranted to Dylan that that Caleb had packed him off to a meeting with the wrong information and then disappeared. Searching through the tablet, Jai was shocked when he discovered that Caleb had gone on the Rotterdam run without mentioning it to him. "When has Caleb ever gone on a job? You know, I don't think I've ever seen him sit in a truck, let alone drive one," he exclaimed. Fair point. Ray continued to manipulate Dylan At The Hide, Ray offered Dylan some driving lessons. On a high from his new "legit" job, Dylan told Ray: "I'm not doing anything dodgy for you at the Depot, so you can stick your driving lessons." But Ray insisted he was just trying to help. If Dylan gets his licence he'll be able to start driving for the Depot and get paid more. Ray told Dylan he was on his side, with Dylan coming round to the idea. Later, Ray gave Dylan his first lesson. He also offered to book him in on an intensive course as he'll be able to get licence quickly after getting his theory. He offered to pay for it all too, will Dylan accept? Mack returned home in Emmerdale tonight After a brief chat with Aaron in the hospital, where Mack advised him to call Robert, Mack was discharged. Mack was given the "Red carpet treatment" at home with biscuits and alcohol-free beer. Moses was especially delighted to see him and the two immediately headed off to play Night Ninjas. Ross took the opportunity to mention the paternity test to Charity. She informed him she had an appointment booked the next day. She asked Ross to supply a swab. However, to Charity's dismay, Ross told her he was going with her. Liam buried his head in the sand Liam's troubles mounted up as the CQC (the independent regulator of health and social care in England) want a full report regarding John's employment. Despite all this going on, Claudette reminded not to forget his own problem and told him to rebook his appointment as "ignoring it won't make it go away". But will Liam listen?
