What happened in Emmerdale tonight: John still on the loose, but Robert is free and Cain is angry

Cain blames Aaron

Emmerdale tonight saw Robert get out of prison, Mackenzie recount what he had been through, Cain get mad and John still wondering round the village unseen.

Here’s a round-up of everything that happened on Friday September 19.

Robert released

It took some time, but Robert arrived back in the village a free man. John had framed him for the gorge plunge, but Robert had always protested his innocence.

Now Aaron has woken up and confirmed the truth, Robert was able to walk free. Though not everyone was pleased to see him. Chas gave him short shrift in the village. We’re not sure who she thinks she is, but she needs to wind her neck in.

Despite Chas’ warning to stay away, Robert couldn’t help himself and went to see Aaron. But Aaron was also not that interested in having him there and soon told Rob to leave. Guess we still have to wait a while for that Robron reunion.

As Robert returned to the village, Victoria sighed with relief. She thought he’d left for good, not just popped to the hospital.

Robert assured her everything he needed is in Emmerdale and he is going nowhere. That’s what we like to hear.

John was on the loose in Emmerdale tonight

While Robert and Vic were having their heart-to-heart on the doorstep, lurking in the shadows watching them was John. He was clearly not overly bothered that police were everywhere given it was broad daylight and he was only hiding behind a post.

But no one has spotted him and he is still walking free. So what is his next plan, we wonder?

Mackenzie revealed John’s crimes

As John’s confidant, Mack knows the full extent of everything John did. As he recovered in hospital the police, Charity and Cain all wanted answers over what John had told him.

And as Mackenzie told them everything in great detail, it almost felt like he was sorry for John. He seemed grateful that John had eventually saved him – and wasn’t at all focused on the fact John had done it to him in the first place.

Mack seems to have a touch of Stockholm Syndrome, but will that continue?

Cain was desperate and angry in Emmerdale tonight

To be fair, Cain Dingle is often pretty angry, but tonight he was really angry. After listening to Mackenzie’s tale of how Nate died, Cain then went to see Aaron.

Cain made it very clear he holds Aaron responsible for this. For his part, Aaron is recovering — physically at least, after the fall off the gorge.

He’s in hospital, but there’s a lot for him to process emotionally: the betrayals, the near death, and the fallout of John’s crimes. Cain isn’t exactly helping with that. Of course he’s hurting and grieving and, well, angry. But will Cain calm down and forgive?

Also in Emmerdale tonight…

The other stuff sort of hasn’t mattered as much this week with the John Sugden drama going on. But still, in the background we had April standing up to Ray and wanting answers over when their debt would be wiped out.

But things got dangerous when Ray drove her off in his car and gave her a good talking to. April wasn’t scared though. And when she mentioned who her mother was, it turned out Donna is a bit of a legend in the gangster community as she saved a lot of them by killing Gary North. Who knew, eh?

It didn’t give April much kudos though as Ray still wants his money.
