A mystery woman arrived in Emmerdale in the back of a van tonight and threw Caleb Miligan into a panic, but who is she?

So why is this woman in the village? How did she get there? And what is she involved in?

Caleb and Joe find a stowaway in Emmerdale

On Wednesday October 22 Joe headed to the depot to try again to persuade his uncle to help him out with the police. Caleb witnessed an accident where Joe ran down Jimmy King. Nicola King firmly believes Joe did it on purpose and wants to make him pay.

Caleb is Joe’s only way out and he had threatened to lie to the police. But when Joe went to see him to try and persuade him otherwise, they were distracted by a noise at the yard.

Investigating, they located it to the back of one of the vans. When Caleb opened it up, a woman emerged. Ruby then turned up and found the woman, managing to coax her out of the van.

Joe soon used this to his advantage, claiming Caleb would be in a lot of trouble if the stowaway was found on their property. Joe then stalled the police so Caleb and Ruby could get her out of sight.

It meant Caleb backed Joe as Joe had got him out of a hole too.

Phew for Joe, but what about the stowaway?

Ruby and Caleb clash over Anya

Who is the mysterious woman in the van in Emmerdale?

What we know so far is that the woman is being referred to as Anya. Joe pointed out the van had travelled abroad and she was clearly an illegal immigrant.

Ruby could tell Anya was unwell and wanted to get her medical help. But Anya refused, so instead Ruby took her home, fed her and let her sleep.

Caleb was absolutely furious when he found out. He knows this could implicate them in human trafficking and wants nothing to do with it.

Facing a potential prison sentence doesn’t deter Ruby and she asks Liam to come over and look Anya over tomorrow night (Thursday October 23). Liam advises Ruby she needs to call the authorities.

But next week, Ruby and Caleb are at war over her. Caleb wants her to leave, but Ruby insists she can stay.

Anya realises she’s overstayed her welcome and and vanishes. Ruby is fuming, but Caleb is firm it’s for the best. Storming off, will Ruby find Anya and bring her back? And what will the consequences be for Caleb if she does?

Bear Wolf’s tale will be told, but will it connect to Anya? (Credit: ITV)

Anya connected to Bear’s storyline?

There is speculation that Anya is connected to the never-done-before storyline coming up for Bear Wolf. In a standalone episode set to explore the 100 missing days of Bear’s life after he supposedly left for a new life in Ireland, we will learn he is trapped in “all too common situation for a forgotten generation”.

Although we don’t know what it is yet, Joe Absolom, who plays Ray Walters, has hinted he is involved. In a recent interview with Emmerdale Insider and other media, Joe talked about Ray’s difficult upbringing by mum Celia.

“We see in episodes later on when I talk to Bear, we see little hints of what his life has been like,” Joe said. This certainly suggests Ray is in contact with missing Bear.

And now some fans think Anya is connected too. Sharing a picture of Anya on social media, one wrote: “The human trafficking story that Bear is involved in has begun.”

Another fan also connected the two: “Interestingly, people did mention human trafficking a few weeks back and I have no idea where they got that from, but judging from the upcoming spoilers it seems Caleb finds a woman stashed in one of his trucks, implying perhaps she was trafficked… It looks like it may have legs.”

And a few weeks previously actor Joshua Richards, who plays Bear, explained: “I’ve done something on this subject which I’m not going to say, but I did a play about it with John Godber a few years ago and it was riveting – quite profound and upsetting and also full of alarming facts.”

The play in question was 2007’s Sold. Joshua played a journalist trying to help a woman who has been sold to people traffickers.
