In the Emmerdale episode which aired on Thursday, August 21, fans witnessed John Sugden strike again. This time, the former army medic took out Mackenzie Boyd, after realising he was starting to learn the truth. Despite Mack being shot by an arrow, and John being shown bringing a rock down to finish the job, fans still think he could be alive… Mack put himself in danger, after discovering the truth about John (Credit: ITV) 1. There was no body In the world of soap, not seeing the body of a deceased character can sometimes mean that said character isn’t dead after all. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time a character who was presumed dead has waltzed back in weeks or months later, and some think there must be a reason why we didn’t see Mack’s body. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Of course, there was blood in the van, with what appeared to be a body underneath a blanket…but some fans are predicting it wasn’t Mack’s body at all, but a red herring. Does no body really mean he could have survived? Charity slept with Ross recently (Credit: ITV) 2. Charity and Ross twist Over the last few months, there’ve been several complications in Charity and Mack’s marriage. Recently, fans learnt that Charity, who had agreed to be Sarah and Jacob’s surrogate, might not be carrying their baby after all. Instead, the pregnancy is potentially a consequence of Charity sleeping with Ross! Though Charity and Mack had fallen out before he disappeared, he didn’t yet know about her cheating. Would they start such a storyline with no intention of Mack ever finding out? John killed Nate last year (Credit: ITV) 3. Similarities to Nate’s demise Last September, Nate Robinson left the village. Months later, viewers learnt he’d actually been killed by John Sugden. For months after that, the Emmerdale residents remained none the wiser about his demise. John had staged the whole thing to make it look like Nate had moved away, and Tracy was devastated to eventually learn the truth. Mack’s storyline would be very similar. Currently, Charity believes he’s disappeared off to London, ending their marriage in the process. The storyline would take a very similar path — and once again see the Dingles looking for answers. Will it mirror Nate’s death so closely? Previously, John wanted to save people (Credit: ITV) 4. John’s hero complex Though he’s killed twice before this, murder wasn’t ever John’s original plan. He was suggested to have a hero complex, bringing people to the brink of death to save their lives. This went wrong with Nate, and killing him was accidental. Though he went on to kill Owen, in order to pin Nate’s murder on him — does this mean he no longer has a problem with killing? Was he really desperate enough to kill a third time? Could it still be Mack who takes John down? (Credit: ITV) 5. Something needs to cause John’s downfall Throughout the year, it seems as if every time someone gets close to finding out the truth about John, something stops them. He’s managed to cover his tracks time and time again…surely somebody needs to step in eventually, and tell everyone what they know. If Mack is another of John’s victims, when will anybody be able to uncover the truth? Some fans are predicting John is simply keeping Mack hostage, and he’ll eventually break free to expose all that he’s done. Could he have survived? No goodbye post One thing many Emmerdale fans have noted over the last week, is the lack of goodbye post from Lawrence on the Emmerdale social media accounts. In the past, when actors have left the show, the Emmerdale social media team has posted a goodbye video from the cast member to the fans. While some fans have taken this as a hint, others have pointed out Jurell Carter, who played Nate, didn’t get one either. Has Lawrence left the show for good? As one fan pointed out: “Now how can Charity receive a voicemail from Mack ending their marriage if he’s dead?? HE’S ALIVE, I’m telling you.
