ITV Share By Carena Crawford Sep 24 2025 By Carena Crawford Sep 24 2025 Don't worry, this is not how the John Sugden storyline will end - OPINION John will have his final showdown, I demand it Features John Sugden Share By Carena Crawford Sep 24 2025 By Carena Crawford Sep 24 2025 Well now, that was not what I expected/hoped for/demanded – after all that, Emmerdale baddie John Sugden has escaped to Rotterdam a free man and that’s the end of that? I don’t think so! There is no way this is the last we’ve seen of John. Mark my words, as a soap journalist of over 20 years, this will not end here. After all of those crimes, all of that build up and week’s worth of dragging it out, Emmerdale seemingly chose to end John Sugden’s story on a random Wednesday night in nowhere near a blaze of glory. Nope. No way. Not happening. It was John who killed Nate… accidentally (Credit: ITV) John Sugden’s many, many crimes in Emmerdale Let’s take a look at his catalogue of crimes. Of which there are many. You see, John has a hero complex – he likes to hurt people so he can then save them. This is what he was trying to do with Nate Robinson, who was injured after a fight with Cain Dingle. Nate had a bad reaction to the medicine and died. But instead of confessing, John disposed of his body in the lake. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers When it surfaced, John went to great lengths to protect his secret including arranging to have Nate’s stuff collected and framing Owen Michaels for the death. As well as Nate, we know John did something to his former fiancé Aidan Moore that put him in a coma. He also drugged Chas and framed Ella Forster for it. He hit Mack over the head with a shovel, and he caused the slurry tank leak at Butlers. He also gave Cain alcohol poisoning and saved his life. When his secrets started to spill out, John kidnapped Mack and held him hostage in a bunker for weeks. He drugged Aaron to keep him under his control. And when that didn’t work, he pulled him over a cliff. THEN he framed Robert Sugden for it all. Have I missed anything? John seemingly went to Rotterdam (Credit: ITV) How did the John Sugden storyline end in Emmerdale? Well, ‘end’ is hopefully not the correct term. But this chapter has come to a close with John blackmailing Caleb Miligan into taking him abroad. Despite Cain trying to hand John to the police, Caleb couldn’t risk Ruby’s freedom and insisted he had to help John. Subsequently he drove John in the back of one of his lorries to Rotterdam where he supposedly dropped him off. In return, John deleted an email he had scheduled to send to the police about Anthony’s death. He also revealed the exact location he had buried Anthony’s body. And that looks like that. Cain won’t let John go (Credit: ITV) It’s not over! Never fear! Emmerdale has something up their sleeves. It could be a Halloween return, or a Christmas comeback. But whatever it is, he will be back. I have to believe that! We might be distracted for a while by news of Robert’s mystery man from prison. But just when the dust has settled and Robron are back together, that’s when John will be back. It’s soap lore – baddies always return; some from prison, some from being on the run and even some from the dead. John Sugden is an obsessive. He is obsessed with Aaron and obsessed with bringing Robert down. Is he going to let them live happily ever after? No siree, he is not. I don’t believe this is the end for John in Emmerdale. I don’t know how or when or even where, but I do know we will see justice served – one way or another. Read more: Who’s leaving Emmerdale?
