For months, viewers have held onto the belief that Anthony isn’t dead. No matter what evidence was shown, they have believed that John Sugden actually saved his life. When John was leaving the country, his final act of heroism was telling Caleb were to find Anthony’s body. And Caleb later confirmed to the others that it was there. But even with this, it seems fans still aren’t convinced. And they seem to know what Caleb really saw in the grave. Fans still think Anthony is alive (Credit: ITV) How did Anthony die in Emmerdale? At the very start of the year, Ruby Miligan killed her abusive father after the pair had an argument. But she wasn’t the only one involved. Earlier that day, Aaron Dingle had beaten Anthony up, to the point he even feared that he was the one who took his life. But in reality, Ruby found her dad in the bad physical state after Aaron, and took the final blow. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers However, John, believing Aaron was the culprit, took it upon himself to hide Anthony’s body. The truth was then discovered, and Cain, Chas and Moira all learned the truth. Over the past lot of months, John refused to tell the murder club where Anthony was buried for insurance. And while it didn’t make sense to those involved, it did to us viewers. Having Anthony’s body was John’s way of escaping all of his other crimes. As the second they wanted to turn him into the police for Nate’s murder, he reminded Caleb that Ruby would go down too. In the end, Caleb got John out of the country and John gave Caleb Anthony’s final resting place. But some fans believe it wasn’t actually Anthony in the grave – instead it was a deer. Fans aren’t convinced Caleb saw Anthony’s body (Credit: ITV) Fans convinced the body was not his When John was running around the woods, keeping Mackenzie Boyd in the bunker, he also took the time to kill a deer. And we know that he buried that somewhere in the woods near the cottage. So, Emmerdale fans think it was that deer in the grave. Which would mean either Caleb just spotted a body bag and assumed it was Anthony – or he knows it’s not and is lying to make everyone else feel better. Taking to X, Emmerdale fans discussed the theory. One wrote: “Did Caleb actually check it was Anthony’s body and not a dead animal?” Another added: “You just know that body won’t have been Anthony’s!” “Probably not even Anthony’s body” a third commented. A fourth predicted: “It’s the deer he buried.” A fan agreed: “Knowing John, it’s probably a deer buried there and Caleb will lie.” The revelation that Anthony is buried there brings a whole long-running storyline to close. But if it turns out it’s actually not him – that’s sure to have some serious ramifications for everyone.
