John's ending could literally go in any direction

Emmerdale fans are divided over how they want the ending of John Sugden’s storyline to go.

Dead or alive, the story needs to come to an end soon. It’s lasted long enough, and it’s clear John’s days are numbered.

But exactly how will Oliver Farnworth bow out of the show? While details are being kept under wraps, fans aren’t too sure if they want him to live and face the consequences. Or to die a very brutal death.

So let’s have a look at the possible outcomes.

John to die at the hands of a villager

Something that Emmerdale fans are debating on Reddit is if they want the ending to be John dying.

One wrote: “Personally I would love to see Chas or Tracy kill him.”

Another agreed: “I think it should be Victoria who deals the final blow.”

“I really hope he dies. He could reveal the Anthony stuff and bring them all down if he lives. Plus I would love knowing he could never ever return” a third begged.

Will John stand trial?

However, John dying doesn’t sit with everyone. And some want to see him stand trial for his crimes.

One penned: “It wouldn’t be right if he was killed. He needs to go to prison and have his saviour complex destroyed. That would psychologically ruin him.”

“I also hope he stands trial for all the things he has done” another added.

A third said: “I think there will be a trial. It will pull all the strands together and give the full backstory. His final ‘hero’ act will be confessing to killing Anthony too to ‘save’ Aaron. Then he’ll go to prison.”

But not everyone wants to see another trial play out. One added: “I personally don’t want to sit through weeks of a trial when we know the outcome would be guilty..”

Locked in his own bunker

A shock, and perhaps unrealistic theory is that the Dingle’s will all discover the truth and have a team-up.

One fan theorised: “Aaron finds Mack in the bunker and gets a message to the Dingles to come and save them. But they know they can’t turn him into the police or he’ll tell them about Anthony. So, they lock him in the bunker to die alone.”

Very unrealistic because we’re sure John has figured out a secret escape from that bunker just in case he ever did get locked down there…

Shock confession?

Many think that we will avoid a trial and death by John actually just breaking down and confessing everything. He has come close quite a lot, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if he did decide to come clean.

An Emmerdale fan wrote: “I really NEED to see a FULL confession.”

“John will unravel. Paddy is going to figure it out and the next time he calls the hotline he will trigger a full confession” another agreed.

One last kill that gets him caught

This is the one we’re all scared about. But will John kill once more, before he is caught for good? And if so, who faces the end of the road?

One fan wrote: “I still think there’ll be another kill. Three makes a serial killer. I think it will end up with him hitting that mark and then getting caught.”

Lawrence Robb has revealed Mack isn’t out of the woods just yet – so could Emmerdale actually kill him after everything?

Comatose from his own needles

Not dead and not in prison. But some Emmerdale fans want him to be in the same state Aidan Moore was in – comatose for life. And they specifically want it to happen by him getting stabbed with one of his many needles.

A viewer wrote: “I would like to see real justice – somehow gets stabbed by one of his own needles and ends up in a semi-vegetative state. That’s poetic symmetry.”

“I think he’s gonna end up in a coma for life” another wrote.

While we are yet to discover how John’s ending comes about, we’re sure it’s going to be highly dramatic. And hopefully worth the very long wait!
