Emmerdale review: Kev, Robert and Aaron got even more complicated, Joe's had a personality transplant, and who is Anya?

We're intrigued by Anya!

Our Emmerdale review this week is a bit breathless, because wasn’t this week’s Emmerdale a rollercoaster of emotions, eh?

There were some marvellous highs – some quite unexpected – and some slightly odd lows, and we’re left with a few questions after all that.

Here’s what we thought of the action in this week’s Emmerdale review.

Kev, Robert and Aaron in our Emmerdale review

The biggest highlight of the week for us was the brilliant love-triangle between Kev, Robert and Aaron. Our initial love for Kev has not dimmed. In fact, we think we love him even more now he’s in the village and living with Claudette and Charles.

The whole thing is a total nightmare for Robert, who’s now stuck between furious Aaron and volatile Kev. But it’s really fun for us to watch!

In fact, it almost made us wish that John Sugden – whose campaign of terror in the village we did enjoy enormously – wasn’t connected to this story, too. Between Kev’s heart attack, Robert’s mixed feelings and Aaron clocking Kev and Robert kissing, there’s more than enough drama to keep us all going.

We’re already quite sad that Kev’s got a terminal illness that means he won’t be hanging around in the village. Because he’s shaping up to be an Emmerdale icon.

Dad knows best

There were some unlikely dads offering parenting advice this week. First of all, there was Bob being wise about teenagers.

He commented that kids were tricky between the ages of 16 and 20. And we wondered which of his many, many children he’d actually parented between those ages. The answer, we’re fairly sure, is none.

Unless you count Cathy, who’s off on her never-ending round-the-world cruise.

Meanwhile, up at Home Farm, Joe Tate seems to have slipped into the role of dad to Dawn’s kids. Except they have a dad – Billy – who has vanished.

He’s barely been involved in the whole Clemmie/Carl business. He wasn’t consulted about Clemmie changing schools, nor when she decided to stay put. Perhaps he’s being kept busy looking after baby Evan who’s also vanished.

And back in the village, Laurel and Rodney were being roped in to look after Jimmy and Nicola’s kids. Now, admittedly it’s a while since we were kids, but surely teenagers Angel and Elliot don’t need babysitting. And surely they’re capable of keeping an eye on little brother Carl?

Joe ran Jimmy over

Speaking of Jimmy and Nicola, things got heated between them, Dawn and Joe when the police decided not to take Carl’s case any further. Joe threatened the Kings. And then – oops – he knocked Jimmy over!

In true Emmerdale fashion, Jimmy went from death’s door to full health in a couple of episodes. But fortunately his brush with danger ended with him, Dawn and the Kings making up. Plus Carl and Clemmie are friends again, too.

This whole thing seems a bit quick, doesn’t it?

Joe’s changed so much in our Emmerdale review

And while we’re on the subject of things being a bit quick… This week there was mention of the limo crash, and Nicola called Joe a monster.

And that made us think back just a few short months to when Joe stole Caleb’s kidney and started the chain of events that killed Amy, Leyla and Suzy. He’s really changed completely, hasn’t he? Perhaps he got some kindness transplanted along with that kidney?

Mind you, he did consider leaving Jimmy injured on the side of the road, so perhaps he’s not all good.

Anya arrives next week in Emmerdale

Anya arrived

Up at the depot, Caleb was having a nightmare of his own. He found a stowaway – Anya – in one of his lorries and then Ruby took her in.

We’re quite intrigued about Anya’s real identity and why she’s in Emmerdale. And we really love how Caleb can lie and trick and manipulate everyone except his wife, Ruby. He folded like a deck chair as soon as she questioned him about what he was hiding. Hilarious.

Ross, Vinny and Lewis

Another unexpected high this week was the new houseshare between Vinny, Lewis and Ross.

Lewis and Ross are such a good partnership and throwing Vinny into the mix can only add to the fun. We loved Ross wearing Gabby’s dressing gown, and his nicknames for Vinny. And we loved Lewis letting slip some secrets about his brother. Who knew Ross was such a Little Mix fan, eh?

Plus we’re glad Gabby’s finally seen sense and ended her marriage – which really shouldn’t have happened at all. And we’re wondering if this is all pointing to something happening between Vinny and Lewis?

What’s happened to Charity?

We understand filming schedules and whatnot, but sometimes when storylines vanish for a couple of weeks, it’s really noticeable. The clock is ticking on Charity’s pregnancy and we don’t know what’s going on!
