Former Emmerdale actress Lesley Dunlop has appeared in court on two driving charges. The 69-year-old pleaded guilty to both offences but has escaped prison.

Best-known for playing Brenda Walker on the ITV soap, Lesley is married to her co-star Chris Chittell (Eric Pollard). She appeared in court last week in West Yorkshire.

Emmerdale star Lesley Dunlop charged with two traffic offences

According to The Sun Lesley was accused of driving 67mph in a 50mph speed limit on the M606 in Bradford in December 2024. In March 2025, she then allegedly failed to provide details of the driver of the same vehicle. This is a breach of the Road Traffic Act.

After appearing at West Yorkshire Magistrates’ Court, she entered a guilty plea. Lesley was then handed four points on her licence and a £222 fine.

She could have faced up to six points on her licence and a £1000 fine, plus a short driving ban.

Brenda Walker’s exit from the soap

Lesley left the soap earlier this year after 16 years. She departed for a cruise in April alongside stepdaughter Cathy.

Although everyone in the village thought she would be returning, she later sent a letter to ex Eric Pollard telling him she wasn’t coming back. She then sold her shares in the local cafe to Lewis Barton.

Brenda had originally left after being betrayed by Eric. He had taken all of her savings and invested them in a bogus scheme. He lost everything and had to confess all to Brenda.

It turned out his actions were because his Parkinson’s medication had made him impulsive. But the side-effects of the pills had also caused him to propose to Brenda. When she realised he’d not only lied and betrayed her, but their engagement was also based on a whim, she couldn’t forgive him.

Brenda moved into the B&B for a while, but eventually won a round-the-world cruise. She decided to go and spread her wings and now won’t return.

At the time her exit was revealed, it was hinted the decision to go had not been made by Lesley herself. A source told The Mirror: “There have been so many exits recently and the talk is of more. With people like Lesley and Roxy [Shahidi, Leyla] potentially in the mix, nobody feels safe.

“The show has grown a lot bigger in recent years but soaps are expensive to make. It’s inevitable saving money means losing people – but it’s a huge shame all the same for those involved, their friends and colleagues.”
