Emmerdale star Lisa Riley has given a teaser on what to expect from the upcoming Bear Wolf storyline – and she has promised it to be “harrowing”.

In an exclusive chat with Emmerdale Insider, on behalf of Buzz Bingo, Lisa revealed more details about whats to come.

Bear has been missing for quite some time, and at the moment, nobody realises that anything is wrong. But we do know that is set to change. And having previously been teased as a “never done before” storyline, with a special episode that puts Bear at the focus, Lisa has provided a few more details.

What is wrong with Bear in Emmerdale?

While Lisa didn’t want to reveal everything, she did tell us it will be “high-end drama”.

She said: “All I can say, from the picture that has been put out, you can see that obviously it’s going to be real high-end drama. It’s brilliant, the fact that, as Emmerdale, we are doing this plot first.”

The Mandy Dingle actress admitted it’s “weird” for her as a viewer, as when she watches the show, she knows what is coming and sees everything from a different “perspective”.

Lisa has previously played the Mum in Three Girls, and had to tackle really “horrendous stories”, and she believes that it is a bit like that – as Emmerdale has the power to inform people of important subjects.

On the Bear storyline, she admitted: “It is going to be harrowing viewing. But I think it’s really important.

“When we tell these stories, we are informing people night after night of what’s going on everywhere, there are these grooming gangs and they are all over the country.

“By doing a story within Emmerdale, it’s incredible. We have become an informer. We also do it with Cancer storylines; it’s good to open people’s eyes. You can’t be an ostrich about something like this.”

Lisa promised that it is going to be “incredible” and the “pennies are going to start dropping” with Mandy and Paddy, as things “start getting a bit strange”.

Will Paddy and Mandy stay together?

Emmerdale fans were thrilled when Mandy and Paddy finally got married (again!) last year. And ever since, they have been going from strength to strength.

But does Lisa Riley want them to remain the stable couple in Emmerdale? She told us that she does – despite the drama coming their way.

Lisa explained that there is “going to be drama” but that it won’t actually be between them.

She admitted: “As much as Mandy loves Paddy, every breath of him and every bone in his body, there are times she just wants to shake him and tell him to be a bit more Dingle. But that’s why they work. I think for a lot of families at home, couples can see themselves in Mandy and Paddy. That’s why everybody loves them together.”

While there will be plenty of drama coming their way with the Bear storyline, Lisa believes it’s going to be “lovely” to see the relationship between Dylan and Paddy grow.

Lisa said: “In a soap, you need what I call the stability couple. And we are the stability couple. There’s affairs going on everywhere. It’s like a chessboard, the knight in the middle. You need them two.”

Lisa ‘proud’ of one particular Emmerdale storyline

It has been three decades since Lisa arrived on our Emmerdale screens as Mandy Dingle – making her the “longest-serving female on the show”. And she has been involved in quite a lot of storylines.

But the infertility storyline was the one which stayed with Lisa the most, especially because she couldn’t have kids herself.

Lisa explained: “I couldn’t have children as myself, so it was a massive learning curve for me. I didn’t realise so many young women out there have had to have an operational hysterectomy. They have to go into relationships saying, ‘I’m sorry, I’ll never be able to get pregnant’. It literally made my heart hurt.”

But by doing the storyline, Lisa admitted she got an “amazing” response, and so many people would message her thanking her for bringing it into focus.

“That’s the power of soap, isn’t it?” Lisa continued. “We can talk about that because obviously, at the time, I think Mandy’s character would have been around 44/45, when we told the story.

“So, I’m really proud of Mandy’s infertility storyline. It’s always touched upon because people talk about Vinny. Mandy’s never going to be able to have children, and so many women go through that.”

Lisa admitted that she finds it “nice to have that flag flying high for women”.
