6 things that haven't made sense in the Emmerdale John Sugden storyline this week

There's a lot that hasn't added up about Mr Sugden

What a week it’s been in Emmerdale for John Sugden, Aaron Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd. What. A. Week. But despite the high drama and fabulous performances there has been some things that just didn’t make sense. Quite a lot actually.

So what hasn’t added up? Here’s our rundown.

1. John’s secret underground bunker in the woods

We know John Sugden is pretty brilliant at everything (or at least he claims to be) but how exactly does he have an underground bunker in the woods, conveniently set up to hold someone captive for weeks on end?

It’s completely kitted out for his needs and so there’s no way he just stumbled across it and thought: ‘Oh, that’s handy I’ll use that.’ He has had this for years. Which begs the question: who else is down there?

Fans were baffled, but not surprised by this development: “How the hell does he have an underground bunker like this, in the middle of the woods?” questioned one.

Another added: “Of course John has a creepy serial killer bunker underground in the woods!” A third wrote: “HE HAS AN UNDER GROUND BUNKER IN THE WOODS?!?! Oh he’s so [bleep] weird and odd. AARON RUN.”

2. Brilliant underground internet

As well as just having a bunker in the woods, this one has electricity AND internet. Speedy, reliable internet too, it would seem.

While Paddy was trying to counsel him from his own kitchen in Emmerdale village, he lost internet connection. But John was able to fake Mack’s entire goodbye voice note with the use of AI from an underground bunker.

We need the name of his service provider. Stat.

3. Why is John keeping Mack alive in Emmerdale?

One big question remains: why has John kept Mack alive all this time? Okay, so we don’t know he definitely still is alive, but assuming he is, why?

Mackenzie knows all of John’s secrets. In fact, John has had a complete trauma dump on him while he’s been chained up. So it’s surely too dangerous to keep him alive?

Is it because of John’s hero complex, he’s trying to save him and be the good guy? Is it because we’re supposed to believe John is redeemable and NOT a serial killer? Or is it just to service the plot?

We’re not sure, but we’re pretty sure Mack’s time might be up

4. Where Mack is going to the loo!

Fans are getting frustrated wondering how Mackenzie is relieving himself and so are we!

“Where does Mack go to the toilet? …. Never see John empty a bucket,” observed one fan.

A second fan said: “Wondering how the Fella goes to the loo? Asking for a friend.” While a third fan wrote: “So unrealistic and far fetched now. Are we to believe Mack hasn’t been to the loo for over a week now.”

“Ok so I may be pushed to believe John can get medical supplies given his medical role but how the holy hell is Mack managing to go to the loo, the stench must be awful,” said a fourth fan. With a fifth adding: “We all want to know ……what does Mack do for wee?”

Some pointed out they’d spotted a bucket under the bed, but surely the smell would be hideous by now?

5. How Paddy didn’t recognise John’s voice – or John Paddy’s

Paddy is Aaron’s surrogate father. They are close, super close. Which means Paddy knows John Sugden fairly well.

So how come he didn’t know it was his voice on the call? Okay, so now he suspects, but that was from information, not from his actual voice.

And how did John not pick up it was Paddy? Pad’s bumbling, stumbling is pretty distinctive. Or was he too wrapped up in his own stuff to think about it?

6. How did Mack – or Aaron – even manage to walk, let alone run, away from John in Emmerdale this week?

Let’s round it up: Mackenzie was shot with an arrow, had his ankle smashed with a rock and has been drugged and out of it for over a week.

He’s dosed up on painkiller, has an infection in his wound and has been chained to a bed for 13 days. He hasn’t so much as got up to walk around the bunker or seen any daylight.

And yet, he managed to free himself and get out of the bunker and other than a slight limp, get away just fine.

John then caught him and knocked him out with another brick. But even that didn’t stop Mack who was up and about and limping to a road minutes later.

Meanwhile, Aaron was drugged and totally out of it, unable to walk unaided. So how did he get out of the house and into the woods to walk around?
