As fans will know, Emmerdale is usually filmed at a purpose-built outdoor set on the Harewood House Estate near Leeds, West Yorkshire. However, sometimes there is a need to venture further afield. And that’s what has happened this week as the John Sugden drama unfolded. Here’s what we know about the location for Aaron and John’s big cliff plunge. If you ignore the drama for a moment, the scenery is beautiful! (Credit: ITV) John and Aaron head to a remote cottage It was music to John’s ears recently when Aaron suggested they get out of Emmerdale. While a break was initially suggested, it was clear the move would become permanent if they found somewhere they liked. More recently, Robert arrived in the woods and was a witness to John throwing himself and Aaron down a gorge. Caleb also had a fall here (Credit: ITV) Where were the location scenes in the woods filmed? Aaron and Mack’s lives may be at risk, but that hasn’t stopped us admiring the scenery. We contacted Emmerdale to ask about the location and were informed that most of these scenes were filmed at Plumpton Rocks, which is near Knaresborough in North Yorkshire. By our calculations it’s about 10 miles from the regular Emmerdale studio. This is not the first time Emmerdale has filmed in Plumpton Rocks either. Back in 2023, Caleb Miligan plunged from a cliff top into a ravine – with Plumpton Rocks chosen as the filming location on that occasion too. At the time, actor William Ash described the area as “beautiful”. After a brief whodunnit, it was revealed that his son Nicky Miligan had been the one to push him after Caleb had forced him to marry Gabby Thomas and swindle her out of her fortune. But gay Nicky refused to be manipulated any further and took dramatic action. Although Caleb lied to the police to protect his son, we don’t think anyone will be that lucky on this occasion!
