The actress did not appear on screen for months. Lydia even missed her own 50th birthday party. Her absence was explained that she’d been looking after her sick mum. Then on the day of the party she got a flat tyre. Riiiiggght. Lydia then reappeared on screen in June, but things have been somewhat quiet for her ever since. Not for much longer, says Karen, who has confirmed her alter ego’s future on the show. That of course included her rape at the hands of former boyfriend Craig Reed, and stepson Samson going to prison. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Attending the ceremony to collect the award for Best Family, Karen revealed: “It’s been a nice quiet year, however she’s got a lovely surprise coming up that’s tinged with an awful lot of drama.” Drama? That’s what we like to hear! So that means she’s definitely sticking around. Phew! Lydia has barely been seen in Emmerdale this year (Credit: ITV) Lydia Dingle goes ‘missing’ in Emmerdale For the most part of this year, Lydia had been spending some time with her poorly mum. She was expected to return for her 50th birthday party and be the star of the show as Kim Tate worked alongside Sam to throw a surprise party for Lydia at Home Farm. But, with Lydia stuck in traffic and then getting a flat tyre (what are the chances?!), she actually missed the party. Just as well as it meant she wasn’t a suspect in Joe Tate’s whodunnit. And, Sam had more recently told Kim that Lydia was back with her mum… despite apparently returning home just the other week. So, fans were pretty concerned. Where is Lydia? (Credit: ITV) Emmerdale fans fear for Lydia Dingle’s future on the show With Lydia being talked about but not actually seen on screen for months, fans grew concerned about both the character and actress. Taking to X, one fan shared: “What is the story with Lydia, back again with her sick mother, has the actress left?” Another fan commented: “Lydia – who has joined the bunch of characters in the attic (those who haven’t emigrated to Australia, that is).” A third person asked: “Anyone know how long it takes Lydia to change a tyre on the way to her party? She reunited with Kim Tate and told her that her mum was on the mend. Lydia still have to go back and forth now and then but she was back at home again. Kim was thrilled, we were thrilled. And, so was Joe Tate who admitted that he was fed up of dusting in Lydia’s place.
