Charity made a (bad) decision, Lucas and Clemmie are in trouble, and what's Vinny up to? This week's Emmerdale was a bit of an anticlimax

But Dawn's ditched the mum-bun and the hoodie, so it wasn't all bad!

This week’s Emmerdale was a bit of an anticlimax, after all the excitement of last week. We wanted to see more of Kev, and watch Robert wrestling with his dilemma.

We’re intrigued by Celia and Ray, and their weird relationship. And we’re also desperate to know if anyone’s even looking for John, because no one is really talking about him any more.

But what we got was a lot of Sarah and even more Charity, in the surrogacy story that just doesn’t go away no matter how much we want it to.

And we also got Nicola at her most annoying, plus some Dawn thrown in as a new – very uncomfortable – story got going.

Anyway,  we’ve probably given away how we feel about this week’s Emmerdale already, just in this intro, but here’s what we thought of the action in our Emmerdale review.

Charity and her baby problems

Right, to recap. Charity is pregnant. But who’s the daddy? And, for that matter, who’s the mummy?

Charity wasn’t sure whether her baby was the embryo she was supposed to be carrying for grand-daughter Sarah and her fiance Jacob. Or if the baby was actually hers, and one-time-baby-daddy Ross Barton was also her new baby-daddy.

Keeping up?

Anyhoo, this week, it all became clear. Somehow Charity had managed to lose the baby she was carrying for her granddaughter Sarah, and the very same day conceive a whole new baby with Ross.

No, it doesn’t make total sense, but stay with us.

Charity has been tormented, waiting to be pregnant enough to take a DNA test. Now she knows the truth, and so does Chas.

Meanwhile Sarah is super excited about being a mum, and keeps buying stuff and talking about what colour to paint the nursery (where is this nursery going to be? Do she and Jacob even have somewhere to live?) and fussing over Charity and generally being insufferable, considering Charity’s not even 12-weeks pregnant yet.

More lies

Totally stricken with guilt, Charity planned to terminate her pregnancy. Which, unusually for Charity, was really quite a sensible idea. No good can come from her having this baby. But obviously she changed her mind and now she’s planning just to lie to everyone. She even doctored the DNA results to let Ross know he was off the hook.

Can we just say again, no good can come of this.

Jacob is going to be a DOCTOR. There’s bound to be something like a blood type discrepancy or an eye colour or a genetic disease or something that makes him twig it’s not their baby.

Plus, that 12-week scan is looming and Charity will not be as pregnant as she’s supposed to be.

Meanwhile, Chas wants Charity to fess up, and “make it right” which seems pretty impossible to us. The whole thing is exhausting and a bit stupid and we just wish it had never happened. Which is probably exactly how Charity’s feeling!

Clemmie and Carl

We reckon we weren’t the only ones Googling to remind ourselves how old Clemmie and Carl were this week.

Clemmie is 10 and Carl is 11. Which made it a bit odd this week when Nicola was talking about them ‘dating’ and saying how sweet they were. We know we’re past it now, but surely 10 is very young to start dating? Isn’t it?!

Anyway, this strange approach to her tween son’s crush soon came back to bite Nicola when he first got thumped by Lucas, and then it was revealed that the thumping came about because Carl had shared an inappropriate photo of Clemmie.

Carl had been sent the photo by Clemmie herself.

The police paid both families a visit, and Carl fessed up. But social services were nowhere to be seen, which is a bit strange given the circumstances. And even stranger when you think that Clemmie is adopted, and had a very rough start to her life, and is therefore no stranger to social workers.

We totally get that kids and social media is an important topic, but this slightly feels like a storyline in search of a character. Clemmie and Carl are so young, that it doesn’t quite work.

There is a slight age gap in Emmerdale between the teenagers like Arthur, April and Angelica, who are all now over 16, and the younger ones.  But perhaps Archie – who’s almost 13 – would have been a better choice. Or even 13-year-old Kyle, though we get that he’s been through enough!

On the bright side, though, this story brought Billy back to our screens! Yay, Billy! We’d almost forgotten about him altogether.

And Dawn got to show off her new glam look with her fancy hair do and nice coat. Isn’t it amazing what a bit of Tate can do for a girl.

Loving Lewis

Lewis offered Vinny a shoulder to cry on this week, and we quite liked it, though poor Gabby was suspicious. Is she right to be? Hmm…

Plus Lewis also offered Kammy some words of advice when he spent the night with Belle and decided he just wanted to be friends.

Thankfully, when Kammy went to speak to Belle, she felt the same way, so they hugged it out and all was well.

But this is soap, and no one ever does the deed without a good reason. Could Belle be pregnant? Ooh, maybe she could give her baby to Sarah? Stranger things have happened.
