The net is closing in on John in Emmerdale spoilers

John has been getting away with murder – quite literally – for months. But next week his worst fears are confirmed when Cain reveals the police are reopening their investigation into Nate’s death.

Viewers will remember that John tried to pin the blame on patient Owen by faking a suicide note in which he ‘confessed’ to murder. But new evidence has come to light which has made DC Cole and her team question if Owen really did it.

John tries his best to feign surprise as Cain informs of him the latest development. But as the police turn up at the surgery to speak to Liam about Owen, he’s thrown into panic. His anxiety levels continue to rise when he encounters Nate’s grieving widow Tracy. But will she detect John’s stressed state?

John and Aaron plan their great escape

Meanwhile, John’s husband Aaron is harbouring a guilty secret of his own. He’s in turmoil after giving into temptation and having sex with Robert. Aaron needs someone to talk to and ends up confessing his sins to Mack. He reveals all about the kiss with Robert on his wedding day, and what happened last night. Mack is annoyed and lets Aaron know his feelings on the matter.

Afterwards, Aaron comes to the conclusion that he and John should leave the Dales – for good. John is a little surprised by Aaron’s suggestion to make a fresh start, but he also doesn’t want to stick around with the police investigation gathering pace.

John is glad when Liam accepts his request for holiday leave, but Chas is visibly upset to learn of the pair’s plans. Nevertheless, she wishes him and John the best for their future plans.

Everything is set, but John is growing fearful of what the police might find. Desperate not get implicated, John picks up the phone and makes a threatening call to someone.

John is in the clear – again!

As the week goes on, so do the questions from the police. Their presence in the village re-awakens Cain and Tracy’s grief over Nate.

Tracy won’t give up until she finds the person responsible for her late husband’s murder. Her suspicions are raised when she confronts the removal man, who supposedly moved Nate’s belongings from Tug Ghyll. Tracy shows him a photo of Nate and he doesn’t recognise him. But when the police interview the removal man he tells them he was paid by Owen to shift Nate’s stuff. Three guesses who put him up to that!

John breathes a sigh of relief when Cain confirms the police had their right man all along. And even Robert accepts that his theory about Owen must have been wrong.
